Powell is the colonel who wanted John's help on defending a fort. After several declines and escape attempts he leaves Carter in a cage that he soon breaks out of and takes Powell's horse. While Carter was being chased by Powell and his men, they bump into Native Americans and a gunfight ensues. During the fight, Powell is injured and Carter takes him with him to hide from the Natives. After successfully evade the Natives, Carter realizes that he is back in the cave of gold he was talking about and is saved by Powell, who warns Carter of a Thern sneaking behind him.
Upon killing the Thern, Carter grabs and accidentally uses the medallion, teleporting him to Mars and accidentally leaving Powell to die. It is unlikely that Powell survived this because he was shot in the gut with a lead rifle shot and was bleeding badly when Carter was warped.
