Tal Hajus was a Thark warrior who frequently disagrees with the Thark Jeddak Tars Tarkas. He was there when they found John Carter and wanted to kill him, but Tars Tarkas stopped him, and at some point he tried to challenge his authority, but no one supported him. After John, Dejah Thoris, and Sola violated their laws, Tars Tarkas allowed them to escape, but when they returned, he had overthrown Tars Tarkas and took his position as Jeddak and imprisoned both him and John. He then forced them both to fight in the arena with a couple of White apes. But he watched in astonishment as John was able to kill both without too much trouble. John then challenged him for the throne and not wanting to look weak in front of his people and that John has earned their favor, he accepted, but just as he jumped down to the arena, John jumped and quickly decapitated him and he was dead before his body hit the ground.
